The Dyson DC17 is, in many ways, similar to the DC15 The Ball and Animal. Standard features include:dyson dc17 vacuum cleaner

  • Single action cleaning wand with 16 ft. reach
  • Easy to turn brush on or off
  • Approved for allergy sufferers
  • Extendable hose for easy stair cleaning
  • Ergonomic carry handle
  • Hygienic and easy to empty dust bin
  • Lifetime HEPA filtration
  • Washable Filters
  • 5 year warranty
  • Automatically adjusting height
  • Long extendable attachment hose
  • On-board tool storage

The Dyson DC17 also comes with the extra tools and attachments including the mini turbine brush attachment, the carpet cleaning kit, and the low floor reach tool. This Dyson upright vacuum includes the features and technology that you would expect from one of the most powerful and unique vacuum cleaners on the market.

The DC17 Animal uses Level 3 Root Cyclone technology. Geared towared pet hair removal, this is the most efficient of Dyson’s Root Cyclone technology to date. I’ve read every user review I could find and the general consensus is the DC17 works even better than the DC15 or earlier models.

This model picks up fine dust and debris even after several passes with other upright vacuums; including other Dyson models. Several owners are very surprised and even embarrassed by what this vacuum cleaner manages to pull out of their carpet. One owner actually sucked up a mouse while using the thin hose attachment to clean behind a cabinet.

Tool-less maintenance.
Removing hair build up from the brush head, cleaning the filter, checking the intake port are all very easy and can be performed without the use of screwdrivers. Attachments are also easy to remove, use and replace.

Is the Dyson DC17 upright self-propelled?
There is nothing on Dyson’s website that states this model or any other is self-propelled. However, several owners claim that it is and go so far as to say that it works better than other brands.

Quieter design.
Although not touted as a super quite line of upright vacuum cleaners, overall, each new model seems to run more quietly than the last.

Cons:
I honestly did not find any common complaints about this vacuum cleaner buy there are a few complaints about Dyson’s customer service. These are general complaints about anything from simple questions to receiving replacement belts. I don’t see these types of complaints very often but, hopefully, Dyson will take notice and make corrections soon. More at finalembrace.wordpress.com.

I just bought a DC-17 Absolute Animal. I was thoroughly disgusted by what it
pulled out of my carpet on the first pass. Very pleased with it so far, but I
have only had it one day. One thing I would say some people may not realize is
that "it doesn't lose suction" b/c you can and have to wash the clear
chamber yourself. Just dumping out the contents into your trash receptacle is
not enough. After emptying mine there was still dust, debris and hair stuck to
the center of the chamber. It cleans easily in my sink with water, but then you
must dry it completely. This is the trade-off for buying a more expensive vacuum
that doesn't use bags - you have to wash it / clear blockages yourself.

We've had the Dyson DC17 for 8 months. It performs well, but the belt just
broke, and now that I'm looking around to buy a replacement, I've noticed that
this vacuum tends to have this problem.
